Planning your wedding flowers can be one of the most exciting parts of the big day. If you're considering dried flowers, you’ve made a smart choice. They’re long-lasting, sustainable and perfect for keepsakes. But one of the biggest questions couples ask is:
When should I order dried flowers for my wedding?
Let’s walk through everything you need to know to time it right and make sure your flowers look perfect on the day.
Why Timing Matters with Dried Flowers
One of the biggest advantages of dried flowers is that they last. You’re not tied to the tight deadlines that come with fresh blooms. That said, timing still matters, especially if you’re ordering bespoke arrangements or planning a larger wedding.
The Ideal Timeline
At Elsie Rocks, here's how it works best:
- 4 weeks before – We start designing your flowers. This gives us time to create everything with care.
- 2 weeks before – We post your order, so it arrives in perfect condition, ready to go.
- 1–2 weeks before the wedding – You receive your flowers and can keep them safely stored until the big day.
Ordering Bespoke vs Ready Made Dried Flowers
Custom Designs
If you're after something bespoke, like a statement bouquet, matching buttonholes or venue flowers, please get in touch early. We take bookings a year in advance and the sooner we get chatting the sooner we can lock in your date!
Once we’ve discussed your ideas, you can relax knowing your flowers are sorted. We’ll check in closer to the time before we begin creating your designs.
Ready-to-Go Ranges
We have a selection of our popular designs on our website. If you see a style you like here but would like to change for example, the rose colours or add in some gold, this is absolutely possible. We recommend, as with the custom designs, that you get in touch early. We recommend at least 3 months in advance to make sure you’re in the diary.
How Long Do Dried Wedding Flowers Last?
Dried flowers can last for months (even years!) with the right care. That’s what makes them such a great keepsake. Unlike fresh flowers, they won’t wilt, so you can enjoy them long after your wedding day.
That said, they’re still delicate, so once they arrive, we recommend keeping them in their box until needed. Store them in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Are Dried Wedding Flowers Cheaper than Fresh?
Not necessarily. While dried flowers don’t need to be rushed or refrigerated like fresh flowers, they start out as fresh flowers and go through extra steps to be dried or preserved.
This means you're getting a longer-lasting product, often with more flexibility in colour and style, but not always at a lower price. What you are getting is value that lasts long after the wedding is over and no wastage.
What Makes Dried Flowers a Popular Wedding Choice?
- They last – No wilting, no drooping.
- Eco-friendly – Less waste and no refrigeration needed.
- No seasonal limits – Your favourite flowers, year-round.
- Perfect for destination weddings – No stress about keeping them fresh.
- Double as keepsakes or gifts – Bouquets and buttonholes can be treasured forever.
